New season style

Shropshire’s fashion-forward shoppers got a glimpse of the latest spring/summer trends last weekend when Telford Shopping Centre staged its 2015 Style Show.

Models took to the runway during the three-day event for interactive themed catwalk shows which presented the very best in wedding guest attire, day-to-night dressing and top seasonal trends; while those wanting to create a complete look could also get advice on accessories, hair and makeup.

New for this year, a Style Boutique gave the audience opportunities to talk in-person to a professional stylist. Helping to create on-trend, highly individual looks to suit different lifestyles and personalities, the team of stylists were also on hand to track down key essentials from chic accessories to the top beauty treats.

Marketing manager, Tracy Hadley said: “We kicked off the spring/summer season in style last week and Sherwood Square was a very fashionable place to be as the latest trends were showcased on the catwalk. Shoppers were inspired by the models showing items as they could be worn as well as on the rail seeking their favourites just minutes after in store and the Style Boutique was a big hit with those who wanted a little extra help in creating their own take on the catwalk looks.

“Those who missed out can find a trend update on the Telford Shopping Centre website with information also available on our Facebook page. This season’s looks are so diverse; there is something for everyone, so whether you want to dare in denim, rock boho chic, or work a winning combination of tailoring and tribal, take your inspiration from us and have fun with fashion this spring/ summer season.”

Planning your big day in style

While some brides and grooms will have firm ideas on what they want for their ‘dream wedding’, others don’t know where to begin. Ahead of Telford Shopping Centre’s annual wedding exhibition on 5-8 February, its wedding style experts have put together some inspirational ideas to get you started, plus their top trend predictions for 2015.

Flowers
Natural tones will be a big trend in 2015, with combinations of green, white and yellow as major colours this season. Adding brighter tones of yellow and green to bouquets and venue decorations will lighten up a wedding without being too bold – unless you want to be, of course. Natural colours will bring a spring feel to the occasion and bolder greens and yellows are great for high summer.

Purple, pink and aqua are also set to be big colours for 2015. These colours work well in pastel for a cooler style or try bolder for a more vivid look. Vibrantly coloured flowers combined with wide, dark green leaves give summer vibe right through the year, while pastel colours with smaller, jade colour leaves bring a vintage style to bouquets and venue decorations and are ideal for spring or winter.

Venue Decoration
Alfresco weddings have become really popular, but with the unpredictable British weather, it is not always a safe option. Many weddings will see the outdoors brought indoors, using carefully thought out decorations, table displays of flowers, clever lighting and vintage elements, similar to those seen on the Great British Bake Off.

When choosing decorations for your venue, consider what will work best and give that extra wow factor for wedding photography. Older venues with dark wooden panels on the walls may better suit lighter, pastel colour themes or additional lighting to really lift the space for the evening reception. Lighter, neutral room colours will suit a wider colour spectrum.

If you have particular elements you want to include as part of your wedding setup, consider these when choosing your venue. If you can imagine how it will look on the day it will make that decision much easier.

Wedding Dress
Vintage style lacework will continue to be a major focus this year and has been used in more imaginative ways, creating fuller dresses, beautiful finishes to necklines or adding detail and decoration to a range of skirt shapes. Lace veils will also be popular, creating a more decorative element to wedding hair and complimenting the popular vintage style by bringing a touch of ‘Downton’ to your day.

Dresses featuring substantial amounts of lace are using shorter trains, as worn by Angelina Jolie at her wedding to Brad Pitt, although her unique patterned gown has not become a fashion demand. A shorter veil also helps reduce the weight on brides, which can be a problem on the big day. Practice walking in your during fittings to get used to how the dress will feel – it will make things much easier on the day.

Ivory and silver are still the top colour combination for dresses, with silver beading and detailing creating a more decorative style and simple sweeping fabric in ivory is still a popular choice for brides who want to avoid lace.

Strapless styles are always in demand, like the gown worn by the Saturday’s Frankie Bridge last year. However higher necklines, as seen on Poppy Delevingne and Kim Kardashian are becoming more popular, particularly for brides preparing for the more unpredictable weather. Accessories to suit the weather and time of year of your wedding can also help when considering your gown style.

Olivia Palermo created a lot of fashion interest with her wedding outfit last year, combining a flowing lace tiered skirt with a soft ivory jumper, rather than a traditional dress, and adding a bold pop of colour with a pair of royal blue heels. The contemporary bridal look worked perfectly for her wedding theme, incorporating colours, style and personality.
